Welcome to the world of Agapanthus

The Agapanthus, also known as the African Lily, is a true eye-catcher in any garden or on a sunny terrace. With the right care, sunlight, and a little love, it rewards you every year with stunning blooms.

Two types of Agapanthus
There are two main types:

Evergreen Agapanthus keep their foliage year-round but need protection from frost.

Deciduous Agapanthus lose their leaves in autumn and are more tolerant of cold temperatures.

Whichever type you choose, both bring color, life, and structure to your garden.

The right spot
Place your Agapanthus in a sunny, warm location. The more sun it gets, the more abundant the flowers will be! Always ensure the soil drains well, as the roots dislike standing water.

🌱 A small planting tip:

In pots: use a high-quality potting mix and add a thin layer of lava rock or clay pellets (Argex) at the bottom of the pot for good drainage.

In the ground: mix some compost or soil improver into the planting hole to create a healthy, airy soil that encourages strong root growth.

Water and feeding
Water regularly, especially during warmer periods, but avoid keeping the soil too wet.
During the growing season, feed your plant with a fertilizer low in nitrogen and rich in potassium to promote sturdy stems and abundant flowering.

Winter care

Evergreen varieties should be overwintered in a cool, light, frost-free place.

Deciduous varieties can tolerate light frost, but protect them during severe cold.

After flowering
You can remove spent flower stems to save the plant’s energy — or leave them, as the seed heads remain decorative well into autumn.

Grower’s tip
Divide older plants every 4 to 6 years to keep them vigorous and blooming beautifully.
